The Indonesian Licensing Association (ASENSI) is encouraging the development of intellectual property (IP) so that it can deliver economic added value through strengthened licensing in the country.

ASENSI Chairwoman Susanty Widjaya said Indonesia has significant intellectual property potential. However, the main challenge is how that potential can be developed and commercialised so that it is able to create higher economic value.

“IP is not only about creativity or just designing a logo or a character. If managed properly, IP can become a business asset that generates long-term economic value. Through the licensing business, an IP can be developed into various product and business categories while creating new revenue streams for business players,” she explained in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

According to her, this commitment is being realised through the holding of The 7th International Licensing Conference 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday (19/8).

Furthermore, Susanty said business players need to view licensing not only as an industry, but also as a business strategy to expand markets. Through this scheme, an IP can be developed into various product categories, ranging from toys, consumer products, fashion, publishing, food and beverages, entertainment, to lifestyle.

“We want more Indonesian business players to understand that licensing can be one of the strategies to develop business, expand markets, and create new revenue sources. The hope is that more Indonesian IP will not only be recognised, but also successfully commercialised and developed into sustainable businesses,” she said.

ASENSI considers the high level of participant enthusiasm at The 7th International Licensing Conference 2026 as evidence of the growing attention business players are giving to business opportunities based on intellectual property and licensing.

The conference was attended by delegations from various countries, such as China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan.

On the same occasion, Deputy for Media Creativity at the Ministry of Creative Economy Cecep Rukendi emphasised the importance of intellectual property protection as a foundation for creative economy growth.

According to him, the challenge ahead is not only creating works, but also developing that creativity into economically valuable assets.

“Intellectual property protection is the foundation of creative economy growth. In line with that, we as the government continue to strive to encourage collaboration between creators, IP owners, business players, manufacturers, retailers, investors, and international partners to open business opportunities, expand markets, and increase the economic value of Indonesian IP,” he said.
