Aseng Named a Suspect as Attorney General's Office Uncovers PT QSS's Bauxite Mining Modus Operandi
The Director of Investigation of the Office of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Dirdik Jampidsus) of the Attorney General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, disclosed the alleged modus operandi of corruption involving deviation in the governance of mining business permits (IUP) for PT QSS in West Kalimantan for the period 2017-2025.
‘So basically PT QSS obtained an IUP, but the person concerned did not mine at the location granted; they mined elsewhere and exported the ore using documents from PT QSS in collaboration with public officials,’ Syarief said at a press conference on Thursday evening, 21 May 2026.
The mined ore was then sold for export using PT QSS documents involving public officials. In the case, investigators have named one suspect with the initials SDT or Sudianto alias Aseng, who is the beneficial owner of PT QSS.
‘Their role was to mine the bauxite outside the granted IUP and work together with, of course, cooperate with public officials,’ he said.
‘Yes, they were directly involved because the individual is the beneficial owner and controls all PT QSS activities,’ he added.
The Attorney General’s Office also carried out searches at several locations in Jakarta and Pontianak.
The searches were conducted at three sites in Jakarta and two sites in Pontianak, where investigators seized documents and electronic evidence.
‘What was seized are documents and, especially, electronic evidence,’ he said.
Syarief added that the alleged corruption had caused state losses that are currently being calculated by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
‘The suspect’s actions have harmed state finances and are currently being calculated by BPKP,’ he said.
SDT is currently detained for the next 20 days at Salemba Detention Centre, a branch of the Jakarta Selatan State Prosecutor’s Office.
In the case, the suspect is charged under Articles 603 and 604 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code (the New KUHP). The two articles in the New KUHP prescribe penalties for individuals who corruptly enrich themselves or others to the detriment of state finances.
