ASEAN's Most Visited Nations: Indonesia Trails Far Behind Malaysia

Malaysia became the Southeast Asian country with the highest number of tourist visits throughout 2025. The neighbouring country recorded 42.2 million visits, surpassing Thailand, which has long been known as one of the main tourist destinations in the region.

Citing Seasia Stats, the number of visits to Malaysia increased from 38 million in 2024 to 42.2 million in 2025. Meanwhile, Thailand was in second place with 33 million visits, down from 35.5 million the previous year.

Vietnam followed in third place. The country recorded fairly high growth, from 17.6 million visits in 2024 to 21.2 million in 2025.

Singapore was in fourth place with 16.9 million visits, up slightly from 16.5 million the previous year.

Indonesia placed fifth as the most visited country in Southeast Asia. The number of visits reached 15.4 million in 2025, an increase from 14.3 million in 2024.

In 2024, ASEAN data showed Indonesia recorded around 14.35 million visits. In the same year, Thailand was still the country with the highest number of visits in the region with 35.55 million.

Below Indonesia was the Philippines, which received 6.5 million visits in 2025, up from 5.9 million the previous year.

Meanwhile, Cambodia experienced a significant decline. The number of visits fell from 6.7 million in 2024 to 5.6 million in 2025. Laos was in the next position with 4.6 million visits, up from 4.1 million.

Myanmar recorded around 1 million visits, while Brunei Darussalam had 700,000. Timor-Leste was in last place with around 60,000 visits in 2025.
