Shenzhen (ANTARA) - The largest single-unit-scale photovoltaic project in Southeast Asia, the CGN Laos Northern Interconnection Clean Energy Base phase-1 with a capacity of 1 million kW, has successfully connected to the grid and begun operations on Tuesday (7/4).

This photovoltaic project was designed and developed by China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), with an annual output capacity of 1.65 billion kWh and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to approximately 1.3 million tons.

The project is located in a mountainous area in Oudomxay Province. During the construction process, CGN applied high standards and promoted the establishment of a research institute for standards related to new energy power plant projects in Laos.

In its construction process, the project involved more than 70 companies in the value chain from China and Laos, providing vital contributions to the energy transition in Laos.

The construction of this CGN project has also created around 3,000 jobs for local residents and prioritised the maintenance of infrastructure as well as the preservation of the natural environment around the project site, thus receiving widespread recognition from the community for the social responsibility demonstrated by the Chinese company.
