ASEAN to set up cardiology college
SINGAPORE (DPA): A College of Cardiology will be set up to
pool medical resources and advance research in cardiology in the
Southeast Asian region, it was reported on Tuesday.
It will be modeled after the American and European colleges of
cardiology and emerge in about five years, said Richard Ng, who
will become the new president of the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations (ASEAN) Federation of Cardiology on Friday.
Doctors and those involved in cardiology will be invited to
become members to discuss experiences and findings in an academic
environment, Ng, a consultant cardiologist, told The Straits
Times.
While acknowledging the heterogeneous nature of the 10-member
ASEAN could present obstacles, Ng said he is optimistic the idea
will take off once a concrete plan is drawn up.
