ASEAN to have University: AIPO
BANGKOK (AFP): Southeast Asian parliamentarians meeting in the
Thai capital said on Tuesday they would consider a proposal to
establish a regional "ASEAN University".
Some 250 lawmakers and observers from the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations will discuss the idea at this week's
general assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization
(AIPO).
A special working group has been formed to study the proposal
submitted by Thailand and the Philippines which would pave the
way for an ASEAN University.
The group will look at details like the cost of setting up the
institution and how it would be administered.
Also at the meeting, the committee agreed to follow up a
proposal by Malaysia to set up a group to examine choking haze
while another team will tackle regional drug issues, including
crop substitution programs.
