ASEAN summit to discuss Myammar
ASEAN summit to discuss Myammar
BANGKOK (DPA): Southeast Asian leaders will use the upcoming
informal ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur to hash out their common
stance on the "Myanmar issue", which has proven a thorn in ASEAN-
EU relations, a senior Thai minister said yesterday.
"At this meeting we will discuss all the important issues
touching on ASEAN-EU Relations," said Thai Foreign Minister Surin
Pitsuwan.
He added the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
would try to form a common stance on attracting more European
investment and trade to the battered region.
Surin said Tuesday that the Myanmar issue -- which scuttled a
planned ASEAN-EU Joint Cooperation Committee meeting in Bangkok
in November -- would definitely be brought up at the ASEAN
informal summit in Kuala Lumpur next week.
