ASEAN Summit, Cabinet Secretary: President Supports Peace Negotiations Between Cambodia and Thailand
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that during the retreat session of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on Friday (8/5), President Prabowo Subianto expressed his support for peaceful negotiations between Cambodia and Thailand.
The retreat session is part of the 48th ASEAN Summit series, which took place from 6-8 May 2026. The entire retreat series was held behind closed doors.
“President Prabowo emphasised the importance of the spirit of brotherhood and constructive communication, including encouraging peaceful negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia, as well as the situation in Myanmar, to maintain stability and harmony in the Southeast Asian region,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy, as quoted from the official broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday early morning.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy also revealed on the same occasion that President Prabowo, in the event, once again emphasised the importance for all ASEAN member countries to continue prioritising dialogue to maintain stability, peace, and economic growth in the region amid global geopolitical turbulence and dynamics.
“In a warm atmosphere full of camaraderie, President Prabowo, together with ASEAN leaders, discussed various global challenges that directly impact the region, while strengthening commitments to maintain stability, peace, and economic growth in Southeast Asia,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
According to him, President Prabowo’s presence in the 48th ASEAN Summit series demonstrates Indonesia’s active commitment to strengthening ASEAN unity and solidarity. Indonesia also continues to encourage ASEAN to remain an “anchor” for world peace, stability, and growth amid increasingly complex global challenges.
“Indonesia’s presence at the 48th ASEAN Summit once again affirms Indonesia’s active commitment to being part of the solution, strengthening regional unity, and keeping ASEAN solid as an anchor for world peace and stability,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
In Cebu, Philippines, President Prabowo attended the entire series of peak events at the 48th ASEAN Summit, from the opening ceremony, plenary sessions, retreat, and gala dinner. At the gala dinner event, which concluded the 48th ASEAN Summit series, President Prabowo wore the Filipino national attire “Barong Tagalog” with batik motif accents.
The President is scheduled to return to the homeland on Saturday to continue working visits to the North Sulawesi and Gorontalo regions.
