ASEAN police will play in Vietnam

HANOI (DPA): Policemen from Southeast Asian countries will
swap uniforms for soccer jerseys in a regional tournament hosted
by Vietnam next month that apparently is not open to all ASEAN
members, diplomats said Thursday.

Police teams from Thailand, Singapore, Laos and Cambodia are
taking part in the two-week event that gets underway Nov. 1.

A local newspaper has dubbed the event the ASEAN Police
Football Tournament. Officially the match is called the Vietnam
Police International Football Tournament, according to local
organizers, who said they do not have the financing or experience
to invite counterparts from all other regional countries.
