SINGAPORE (AP): Southeast Asian police chiefs predicted on
Monday that drug trafficking, piracy of copyrighted materials and
computer fraud would probably be the biggest regional cross-
border crimes in the next century, Singapore's state-run
television reported.
The police representatives have gathered in Singapore for a
two-week conference to strengthen ties within the regional
grouping and discuss collective strategies to deal with cross-
border crimes.
Senior police officers from the Association of Southeast Asian
Nations recommended the creation of a joint framework linking
their respective operations to combat rising transboundary crime,
the report said.
ASEAN comprises Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia,
the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
