PHNOM PENH (Reuter): Senior Association of Southeast Asian
Nations (ASEAN) representatives arrived in Phnom Penh yesterday
to formally notify Cambodia of its acceptance into the regional
group in July along with Myanmar and Laos, officials said.
ASEAN Secretary-General Ajit Singh and Malaysian Foreign
Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi were also expected to discuss
preparations for Cambodia's entry into the club, officials and
diplomats said.
"We will study various procedures and discuss what needs to be
done," Badawi said after arriving at Pochentong Airport with
Singh.
Analysts and diplomats said Cambodia's political instability
would also be a likely topic of discussion.
