ASEAN meets in Ho Chi Minh

HANOI (AFP): Deputy Foreign Ministers and senior officials
from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) met in
the commercial city of Ho Chi Minh City to discuss cooperation
programs, a report said on Friday.

The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry's ASEAN department director
said the senior official meeting was due to prepare fresh
cooperation programs, which ASEAN ministers would discuss at
their 34th meeting in Vietnam in July, the Saigon Times daily
reported.

The two-day meeting -- started on Thursday -- was also due to
review implementation of agreements slated in the Hanoi Plan of
Action and at the informal ASEAN meeting in Singapore last
November.

The action plan adopted at a summit in Hanoi in 1998 includes
270 measures and cooperation programs for enhancing the region's
position in international forums.
