ASEAN discusses ethics, corruption
HANOI (AP): Officials from the Association of Southeast Asian
Nations finished two days of talks on Thursday on how to improve
the ethics of government employees in their countries, an
organizer said.
The officials discussed regulations governing civil servants,
initiatives to boost their ethics, ways to attract competent
personnel, and methods to fight corruption, said Tran Anh Tuan,
an official in the Vietnamese government's Committee for
Organization and Personnel.
Participants emphasized the need to build a complete legal
system, achieve a consensus among top leaders on a need for a
strong civil service, properly supervise government agencies and
employees to avoid corruption, and set proper criteria for the
appointment of officials, Tuan said.
He said the officials were able to share their experiences in
working toward the goal of building a transparent, strong and
effective civil service that would help social and economic
development.
