RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – ASEAN member states have agreed to strengthen financial cooperation to protect citizens from global economic pressures. This agreement emerged during the 13th ASEAN Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting (AFMGM) in the Philippines on Friday, April 10, 2026.
According to a press release from Bank Indonesia on Monday, April 13, 2026, it amis to ensure the resilience of the economy in the face of rising global commodity prices. Domestic market demand and investment are key to maintaining the stability of people’s livelihoods.
Financial leaders are also focused on accelerating cheaper cross-border payment system connectivity. The step is to facilitate transactions for the public and improve household financial health.
ASEAN is also drafting the Finance Sectoral Plan 2026–2030 and implementing the Project Revive initiative. This cooperation is expected to create jobs and support small businesses in the region.
Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor, Filianingsih Hendarta, affirmed the importance of commitment from all members. She attended on behalf of Bank Indonesia to discuss financial risks threatening the Southeast Asian region.
“The success of Project Revive hinges heavily on the strong commitment of all ASEAN members,” Filianingsih said. She noted that this new framework must effectively address financial system stability in the public interest.
In addition, digital transaction security has been strengthened to protect citizens from the risk of online fraud. Member countries are also promoting green financing to address the impacts of climate change.
The 13th AFMGM was chaired by the Philippine Secretary of Finance, H.E. Frederick D. Go, and the Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, H.E. Eli M. Remolona, Jr., and attended by eleven ASEAN member states. In closing, Singapore, as the 2027 ASEAN Chair, presented plans for hosting the 14th AFMGM in 2027.
