ASDP transports 215,000 vehicles and 804,000 passengers during long holiday period
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) recorded that 804,000 passengers and 215,000 vehicles were safely transported during the long holiday period spanning Eid al-Adha, Vesak Day, and Pancasila Day 2026.
“During the long holiday period, ASDP’s four main ports—Merak, Bakauheni, Ketapang, and Gilimanuk—served 804,195 passengers and 215,110 vehicles,” stated ASDP President Director Heru Widodo in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. He noted that the high volume of movement reflects the increasing demand for connectivity and the success of ASDP in maintaining smooth services amidst the holiday traffic surge. He added that the successful management of the crossing flow was inseparable from the synergy of all parties involved in ensuring optimal service for the public.
The state-owned ferry operator is committed to providing reliable, safe, and comfortable crossing services. During the holiday period, ASDP took various anticipatory steps, including the optimisation of fleets and port infrastructure, strengthening operational controls, and intensive coordination with all stakeholders to ensure vehicle and passenger flows remained well-controlled.
Movement from Java to Sumatra and from Bali to Java began to increase significantly on 26 May 2026. On the Merak–Bakauheni route, 37,962 passengers and 11,101 vehicles crossed, while the Gilimanuk–Ketapang route served 31,565 passengers and 10,931 vehicles. A further surge occurred on 30 May 2026; on the Merak–Bakauheni route, passenger numbers rose by 25.44 per cent and vehicles by 28.55 per cent compared to the previous day, while the Gilimanuk–Ketapang route saw growth of 27.20 per cent for passengers and 22.66 per cent for vehicles.
The return flow from Sumatra to Java and from Java to Bali peaked at the end of the holiday period. On the Bakauheni–Merak route, passenger volume on 1 June 2006 reached 50,436 people, an increase of 13.38 per cent, while vehicles reached 12,475 units, up 16.73 per cent. Meanwhile, on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route, the highest surge occurred on 31 May 2026, with a total of 29,075 passengers and 9,092 vehicles.
ASDP Corporate Secretary Windy Andale added that the company implemented various strategic steps to maintain operational smoothness, ranging from the optimisation of fleets and port capacity to the implementation of a delaying system in several buffer zones, increasing service personnel, and establishing mini command posts at strategic points to accelerate field coordination.
According to Windy, the implementation of the One Gate System at Merak Port proved effective in accelerating vehicle distribution to the docks in a more orderly and measurable manner. On the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route, the operation of the KMP Roditha also helped increase service capacity during the traffic surge. Service efficiency was further strengthened through the digitalisation of services via the Ferizy platform, allowing users to make online ticket reservations, enabling better travel planning and more controlled vehicle arrival distributions at the ports.
“Moving forward, ASDP will continue to strengthen the transformation of ferry services sustainably to provide increasingly reliable, safe, and comfortable services in supporting national connectivity and the mobility of the Indonesian people,” said Windy.
