Three passengers from the KMP Batumandi, which caught fire in waters off Merak, Banten, are still being treated in hospital. The other passengers have returned to their homes.

PT Indonesia ASDP Indonesia Ferry president director Heru Widodo said all passengers on the KMP Batumandi had been declared safe when the fire broke out on Tuesday (20 October 2026). A joint team handled the evacuation and post-fire care for passengers.

“All passengers listed on the manifest have returned to their homes. Only three remain in need of intensive hospital care; some may need further examinations,” Heru said at Merak Port on Wednesday (21 October).

Heru said the process of recording details of all passengers and their belongings had been completed. The company is now handling the administration for compensation payments.

“The data collection is complete. There are just a few matters concerning compensation costs to deal with, because some people have yet to submit their details, including information about personal belongings, to Jasa Raharja,” he said.

ASDP has provided a dedicated hotline and shared it with KMP Batumandi passengers. Passengers can contact the company directly using the details provided.

“We have also provided a hotline number and explained that documents can be sent by email. We will also proactively contact passengers together with Jasa Raharja,” he said.
