ASDP Supports Evacuation of Passengers from Burning Ferry KMP Putri Yasmin in Lombok Strait
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has provided full support for the evacuation and handling of passengers from the KMP Putri Yasmin, which caught fire on the Padangbai–Lembar route on Wednesday (12/8/2026). The vessel, operated by PT Jemla, was reported to be ablaze in the waters of the Lombok Strait at 04.30 WITA.
ASDP President Director Heru Widodo stated that, as the operator of Padangbai Port and Lembar Port, the company has deployed its authority and port facilities to support coordination with the harbourmaster’s office (KSOP) and the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).
“Our main focus at present is supporting the evacuation process and ensuring that evacuated passengers receive the best possible care. ASDP, together with all parties, continues to deploy the necessary support,” Heru said in an official statement in Mataram.
In the rescue operation, ASDP deployed the KMP Portlink II, which happened to be near the scene. The ASDP-owned vessel successfully evacuated 35 passengers and brought them directly to Lembar Port for further handling.
“We have ensured that all required facilities were ready when passengers arrived at the port. Coordination with relevant agencies continues so that handling is carried out quickly and appropriately,” Heru added.
Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Muhamad Hariyadi, confirmed that the joint SAR team has intensified the search since the report was received at 04.15 WITA. Based on provisional data at the SAR command post, the total number of evacuees reached 173 people.
Meanwhile, Head of the Class II Lembar Harbourmaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), Syamsurizal, stressed that the involvement of nearby vessels was part of a rapid response to the emergency. Data collection and coordination are still ongoing in the Lembar area.
ASDP reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the handling of affected crew and passengers through the readiness of personnel and port facilities until the entire process is declared complete by the relevant authorities.
The Mataram Search and Rescue (SAR) Office reported that of the 173 passengers on the KMP Putri Yasmin that caught fire in the waters off Sekotong, West Lombok, NTB, one person was confirmed dead.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi expressed appreciation for the joint SAR team’s rapid evacuation of 172 passengers from the KMP Putri Yasmin, which caught fire in the Lombok Strait. He stated that 173 people involved in the incident have been accounted for, and the search is continuing.
The Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) has called for stricter supervision of ageing vessels following the KMP Putri Yasmin fire.
