ASDP Strengthens Service Capacity, Government Accelerates Solutions for Ketapang-Gilimanuk Port Congestion

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has affirmed its commitment to accelerating operational measures and infrastructure development as a long-term solution, responding to the government’s push to resolve congestion at the Ketapang–Gilimanuk ferry crossing through strengthened cross-sector coordination. ASDP President Director Heru Widodo stated that the company has been coordinating intensively with the Ministry of Transportation, local governments, the harbourmaster’s office, the police, ferry associations, and logistics transport associations to ensure integrated handling. ‘We understand the impact felt by the public and business operators due to the congestion at the Ketapang–Gilimanuk crossing. Therefore, we are not only focusing on daily operational handling but also accelerating the resolution of the root problems through enhanced service capacity and cross-sector collaboration,’ Heru said in a statement on Thursday. On the ground, ASDP continues to optimise ship operating patterns, maximise fleet capacity, prepare additional parking pockets for logistics vehicles to prevent queues from spilling onto national roads, and encourage passengers to purchase tickets early via the Ferizy app to manage vehicle arrival distribution at the ports. As part of infrastructure strengthening, ASDP is also preparing to increase the capacity of Ketapang and Gilimanuk ports through the phased construction of three pairs of 50-tonne capacity movable bridges at Dermaga 1, 2, and 3, targeted for completion by 2029. The development also includes the construction of a connecting access road between Ketapang and Bulusan to facilitate vehicle flow. ‘ASDP is ready to implement the government’s directives and continue strengthening services so that the Ketapang–Gilimanuk crossing becomes more reliable, safe, and capable of sustainably anticipating the growth of public mobility and national logistics,’ Heru asserted. Previously, during a meeting between Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi and East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa at Grahadi State Building in Surabaya on Wednesday (15/7), a number of strategic steps were agreed upon to increase service capacity while ensuring the smooth flow of logistics and public mobility in the Java–Bali connecting corridor. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi emphasised that the government has prepared various alternative solutions to be implemented in phases, ranging from the construction and optimisation of docks, increasing existing dock capacity, operating larger vessels, to optimising supporting ports such as Jangkar and Tanjungwangi, as well as utilising Celukan Bawang Port in North Bali as an alternative route during peak periods.
