ASDP Strengthens Riau Islands Maritime Gateway with Tanjung Uban Port Development

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is reinforcing its commitment to strengthening inter-island connectivity through the development of Tanjung Uban Port in Bintan Regency, Kepulauan Riau. A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Berth 2 and the capacity enhancement of Berth 1 was held on Thursday, 18 June 2026, underscoring the company’s role as a driver of connectivity and a catalyst for economic growth in the archipelago region. ASDP President Director Heru Widodo stated that the development of Tanjung Uban Port is a strategic move to address the increasing mobility of people and the growing distribution of logistics in the island region. “Every berth we build is not just physical infrastructure, but a bridge for economic opportunities, tourism sector development, and regional competitiveness,” Heru said. He added that this initiative is part of ASDP’s commitment to realising its vision of ‘We Bridge the Nation’, aimed at connecting regions while opening access to more inclusive growth. Full support for the project was also expressed by Kepulauan Riau Governor Ansar Ahmad. He noted that improving port facilities is a strategic step to strengthen inter-island connectivity in the province, which is dominated by waters. “It is hoped that the entire construction process can proceed according to plan, thereby providing optimal benefits to the community,” he said. In this project, ASDP is constructing Berth 2 with a length of 119.48 metres, designed to serve vessels up to 1,000 Gross Tonnage (GRT). This berth will be equipped with an 80-tonne capacity movable bridge to facilitate the loading and unloading of vehicles and passengers. Simultaneously, the capacity of Berth 1 is being enhanced through infrastructure reinforcement and berthing facility upgrades, enabling it to serve vessels up to 2,000 GRT with a berthing length of 200.90 metres. ASDP Batam Branch General Manager Reno Yulianto explained that, in addition to the Tanjung Uban development, ASDP is also rehabilitating Berth 1 at Telaga Punggur Port to improve safety, comfort, and service efficiency for ferry transport in the Kepulauan Riau region. “We are targeting all these works to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2026. Through increased berth capacity and modernisation of supporting facilities, ASDP is committed to delivering superior ferry services to support community mobility, supply chain fluidity, and regional economic activity,” he said.
