ASDP plants 2,500 mangroves along Central Sulawesi coastline

State-owned ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has planted 2,500 mangrove trees in the coastal area of Pagimana, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, as part of its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme. “As a company that connects thousands of islands in Indonesia, we are always committed to and strive to preserve the environment,” said Heru Widodo, President Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), following the planting activity in Banggai on Thursday. He stated that the initiative, themed ‘Connecting Sustainability, Growing Net Zero’, represents the company’s tangible contribution to supporting climate change mitigation through nature-based solutions. The mangrove planting is expected to strengthen coastal ecosystem resilience, improve environmental quality, and provide social and economic benefits for local communities, he said. He conveyed that sustainability has become an integral part of the company’s business strategy. As a state-owned enterprise with a strategic role in connecting Indonesia’s archipelagic regions, the company continuously strives to provide reliable transportation services while being environmentally responsible. “Through the planting of 2,500 mangrove trees in Pagimana, the company aims to make a real contribution to supporting climate action while preserving the sustainability of coastal ecosystems,” Heru said. He noted that the mangrove planting will not end here but will be continuously monitored through Digital Monitoring and Reporting by the environmental NGO Jejakin to ensure the growth meets expectations, with further action to be taken if the trees do not thrive. ASDP has been and will continue to plant mangroves in various parts of the archipelago within the company’s operational areas.
