ASDP: Number of Travellers Leaving Bali Nears Half a Million
Jembrana, Bali - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) recorded that during the seven-day Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr holiday period in 2026, the number of travellers leaving Bali for Java via Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana Regency, Bali, reached nearly half a million people. ASDP data received in Jembrana, Bali, on Thursday, indicates that from 12 March (H-10) to 18 March (H-3) ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the number of passengers crossing from Gilimanuk Port to Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, totalled 427,069 people. “That figure represents a 7.2 per cent increase compared to the same period during last year’s homecoming rush,” said ASDP Corporate Secretary Windy Andale. Specifically on H-3, she noted a significant rise in both vehicle and passenger traffic compared to the previous year. On this year’s H-3, she said, the number of passengers crossing from Bali to Java increased by 65.2 per cent, two-wheeled vehicles by 44.5 per cent, four-wheeled vehicles by 87.7 per cent, trucks by 139.4 per cent, and buses by 51.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. “In total, the number of vehicles crossing from Gilimanuk Port to Ketapang on H-3 experienced a 58.8 per cent increase compared to the same period last year,” she added. On the other hand, the target set by all institutions to ensure all queued vehicles at Gilimanuk could be ferried to Java before Nyepi was achieved. On Wednesday (18/3/2026) around 10:30 PM WITA, or before Nyepi on Thursday (19/3/2026) morning, there were no more vehicle queues at the port entrance. “At that time, the vehicle queue was completely absent, at zero kilometres,” said ASDP Deputy Director Yossianis Marciano. He stated that this success in clearing vehicle queues was the result of collective cross-sectoral efforts that moved quickly and in a coordinated manner. “Thank you for the patience of the public, as well as the synergy of all parties that enabled the queues to be cleared to zero kilometres before the Nyepi closure. This shows that solid collaboration can deliver real solutions in a short time,” he said.
