The health and support of passengers aboard the KMP Batumandi are PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero)’s main priorities following the vessel fire. ASDP confirmed that there were no fatalities.

“ASDP is continuing its post-incident response in coordination with joint-response personnel and relevant agencies. This includes monitoring passengers’ condition, arranging their return home and monitoring ferry operations on the Merak–Bakauheni route,” ASDP President Director Heru Widodo said at Merak Port on Wednesday (21 October 2026).

Heru said the company was continuing to coordinate with all relevant parties to ensure the post-incident response proceeded properly, particularly in meeting passengers’ needs after the evacuation.

“All passengers and crew were evacuated successfully, and there were no fatalities in this incident. We appreciate the joint-response personnel who acted quickly and coordinated their efforts on the ground. Our focus now is to ensure that passengers who need assistance receive appropriate care, while working with the relevant authorities on all follow-up measures,” he said.

In the aftermath of the fire, some passengers received medical treatment at KS Hospital and Merak Community Health Centre (Puskesmas Merak).

“ASDP is continuing to coordinate with healthcare facilities to monitor passengers’ condition and ensure their medical needs are met,” he said.

For passengers who have been cleared to leave, ASDP is arranging their return to ensure their onward journeys are safe and smooth.

“To support response coordination and provide information, the company has also set up coordination posts in Merak and Bakauheni,” he said.

The measures are intended to support coordination among the parties involved, monitor passengers’ needs and ensure that updates shared with the public are based on verified information.

ASDP Corporate Secretary Windy Andale said the company was also monitoring operations on the Merak–Bakauheni route to anticipate any impact on services. It is coordinating with relevant parties to ensure that any operational adjustments reflect conditions on the ground, while maintaining the safety and comfort of passengers.

“We understand that this incident is a matter of concern for the public and ferry users. We are therefore ensuring that the post-incident response proceeds alongside efforts to keep ferry services running smoothly. We urge passengers to follow the instructions of staff on the ground and check official information before travelling,” she said.
