ASDP launches Jakarta-Malahayati ferry route to accelerate Aceh logistics distribution
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), in collaboration with the Aceh government, has launched a new Jakarta-Malahayati ferry route as a strategic corridor to accelerate logistics distribution in western Indonesia. The partnership aims to reduce travel time and improve cost efficiency in inter-island logistics.
ASDP Deputy Managing Director Yossianis Marciano said the Jakarta-Malahayati route is part of ASDP’s service transformation to strengthen a more efficient, modern, and integrated Long Distance Ferry (LDF) ecosystem.
“This route is expected to catalyse national logistics distribution while creating opportunities for trade, tourism, and broader economic growth in Aceh and western Indonesia,” Yossi stated in a press release on Sunday (24 May 2026).
The collaboration was formalised with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Aceh’s Provincial Secretary Muhammad Nasir and ASDP Deputy Managing Director Yossianis Marciano at ASDP’s headquarters in Jakarta on Saturday (23 May 2026). The signing was attended by Aceh government officials, ASDP’s board of directors, and management.
Through this collaboration, ASDP and the Aceh government will develop sustainable ferry services, including vessel operations, regulated tariff management, port facility development, service promotion, and enhanced safety and quality standards for ferry transport.
Nasir said the synergy between the Aceh government and ASDP is crucial for aligning regional development with strengthened national connectivity.
“This partnership will open new development opportunities that can be continuously evaluated and expanded to support more comprehensive regional economic growth in the future,” Nasir said.
ASDP believes the Long Distance Ferry service development will create a more competitive logistics distribution system. Long-distance ferry schemes are expected to improve distribution cost efficiency and reduce logistics transit times.
Yossi added that the move is part of ASDP’s contribution to supporting the Indonesian president’s directive to reduce national logistics costs to 8% through more efficient and competitive distribution systems.
From January to April 2026, ASDP’s Banda Aceh branch served 128,034 passengers and 63,428 vehicles across three routes. These figures highlight the role of ferry transport in supporting public mobility and logistics distribution in Aceh.
“Moving forward, ASDP is committed to strengthening national connectivity through modern, integrated ferry services focused on public service and sustainable economic growth,” Yossi said.
