Banyuwangi (ANTARA) - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Ketapang Branch, Banyuwangi, East Java, has stated that vehicle queues reaching dozens of kilometres are being influenced by a 16 per cent increase in the volume of logistics vehicles compared to the same period last month, alongside ongoing pier improvements.

The General Manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry Ketapang Branch, Media Syahrianto, in Banyuwangi, on Saturday, explained that this condition is occurring simultaneously with the implementation of a project to increase the capacity of one pair of piers to 50 tonnes at Ketapang (Banyuwangi) and Gilimanuk (Bali).

“The work on one pair of piers on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route is part of the infrastructure strengthening and operational readiness to face the 2026 Christmas and 2027 New Year transport period,” he said in Banyuwangi, Saturday.

Currently, he continued, 24 large-capacity vessels are being operated to optimise carrying capacity, with six of these vessels implementing the ‘arrive-unload-depart’ (TBB) pattern to accelerate the loading and unloading process and shorten the time ships spend at the pier.

“We at ASDP are also continuing intensive coordination with regulators and relevant stakeholders to manage vehicle flow, particularly logistics vehicles, while simultaneously accelerating the dispersal of queues on the access roads to the port,” he said.

He stated that ASDP is committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that ferry services remain optimal.

“Safety remains our top priority, without disregarding our efforts to provide even better service,” said Media.

Previously, ASDP also brought in three additional vessels, namely KMP Atayana and KMP Portlink VII, implementing the ‘arrive-unload-depart’ (TBB) pattern at Gilimanuk Port (Bali), while KMP Liputan XII implements the TBB pattern at the LCM Pier (Ketapang/Banyuwangi).
