ASDP Implements Open-Close System for Ketapang-Gilimanuk Ferry Due to Weather

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Ketapang Branch has implemented an open-close operational mechanism for the Ketapang-Gilimanuk crossing due to high waves and fluctuating wind conditions in the Bali Strait.

General Manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry Ketapang Branch, Arief Eko Kurniansjah, stated that operational adjustments are part of risk mitigation efforts to ensure every voyage meets safety standards. “Operational crossings are still very dependent on maritime weather developments, and changes in wind speed and wave height that occur at any time cause services to be opened and closed situationally,” he said on Thursday.

He noted that vehicle queues on the Ketapang side are currently relatively under control. While the Bulusan buffer zone has begun to fill, long queues have not yet formed inside the port area. On the Gilimanuk side, vehicle queues remain within the port manoeuvring area.

ASDP is strengthening coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Class III Tanjung Wangi Harbourmaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), and the police to minimise the impact on service users. The company has also prepared additional vessels to accelerate queue dispersal once weather conditions improve and sailings are declared safe.
