ASDP Deploys 24 Vessels to Ease 13 km Vehicle Queue at Ketapang
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has deployed 24 large-capacity vessels to alleviate vehicle queues in the Ketapang Port area, Banyuwangi, East Java. The vehicle queue in the area has currently reached approximately 13 kilometres.
ASDP President Director Heru Widodo stated that this measure is being implemented alongside the optimisation of vessel operational patterns and coordination with regulators and relevant stakeholders.
“We understand that this situation has an impact, particularly for the public and logistics operators who require time certainty. Currently, we are working with regulators and all relevant stakeholders to take concrete steps to accelerate the clearing of queues and optimise service capacity,” Heru said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday (5/9/2026).
Heru explained that the vehicle density is partly influenced by an increase in the volume of logistics vehicles, which has risen by approximately 16 per cent compared to the same period in the previous month.
This condition coincides with the temporary non-operation of one pair of piers at Ketapang and Gilimanuk, which are currently undergoing capacity upgrades to 50 tonnes.
“This work is part of the infrastructure strengthening and operational readiness to face the Nataru (Christmas and New Year) and Eid al-Fitr 2027 transport periods,” said Heru.
To accelerate the clearing of queues, ASDP is implementing the ‘Arrive-Unload-Depart’ (TBB) pattern using six vessels. This pattern is intended to speed up the loading and unloading process and shorten the time vessels spend at the pier.
“Adjustments to the operational pattern are being made while still considering pier capacity, vehicle traffic conditions, and maritime safety aspects,” Heru added.
In addition to the increased volume of logistics vehicles, operational dynamics at Tanjung Wangi Port have also prompted some logistics vehicles to divert to Ketapang Port.
ASDP Ketapang Branch General Manager Media Syahrianto stated that they are continuing to coordinate with regulators and stakeholders to manage vehicle flow, particularly for logistics vehicles, while simultaneously accelerating the clearing of queues on the access roads to the port.
“Service users who already possess tickets will continue to be served according to regulations. We urge the public to anticipate additional travel time and follow the directions of officers on the ground,” said Media.
