The sea is more than just a connection between regions; it is a vital living space that supports economic, social, and tourism activities, particularly for an archipelagic nation like Indonesia. Recognising the importance of maintaining marine ecosystem sustainability, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) held the Ocean Clean Up Day 2026 simultaneously across various company operational areas to commemorate World Ocean Day on Monday, 8 June 2026.

The President Director of ASDP, Heru Widodo, emphasised that environmental sustainability is a crucial part of the company’s operations as a national ferry transport operator. “As a company operating in coastal and marine areas, ASDP has a responsibility to help maintain the sustainability of the marine ecosystem. Through this activity, we want to invite all ASDP employees and stakeholders to take an active role in maintaining the cleanliness of the sea and coastal areas. Simple steps such as reducing waste and maintaining environmental cleanliness will have a significant impact on the future sustainability of the marine ecosystem,” said Herlo, as quoted from his statement.

Under the theme “Bridging the Nation, Protecting Our Oceans”, the initiative successfully collected more than 13 tonnes of waste from coastal areas, ports, and the waters surrounding ferry routes. This action serves as a tangible form of ASDP’s commitment to marine cleanliness while inviting the public and all stakeholders to participate actively in environmental preservation.

The Ocean Clean Up Day 2026 involved over 400 participants spread across 27 of ASDP’s operational branch regions. This high level of participation reflects a spirit of collaboration and shared concern in creating cleaner, safer, and more comfortable coastal and marine areas for both the community and ferry service users.

ASDP Corporate Secretary, Windy Andale, added that the activity focuses not only on environmental cleanliness but also supports the national sustainable development agenda. “We hope this collaborative action can strengthen the culture of environmental care and encourage the creation of sustainably clean coastal, port, and marine areas to support increasingly comfortable and optimal national ferry transport services,” said Windy.

ASDP continues to strengthen its sustainability commitment through various environmental programmes and innovations implemented consistently across all company operational areas. These steps are part of the company’s contribution to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 14 regarding Life Below Water, while also supporting government efforts in reducing plastic waste and protecting Indonesia’s coastal areas.
