PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Dock II and the capacity enhancement of Dock I at Tanjung Kalian Port, West Bangka Regency, on Monday, 22 June 2026. ASDP President Director Heru Widodo stated that the dock construction and capacity increase represent the company’s commitment to delivering increasingly reliable, safe, and sustainable ferry transport services. “Port infrastructure plays a crucial role as a driver of connectivity and regional economic growth,” Heru said in a statement on Monday. He added that the development and capacity increase of Tanjung Kalian Dock are part of the company’s commitment to providing more reliable ferry services, “while anticipating increased service demand during peak transport periods such as Christmas, New Year, and Eid al-Fitr.”

Governor of Bangka Belitung, Hidayat Arsani, affirmed that the development of Tanjung Kalian Port is a strategic step, given its role as a primary connectivity hub linking the people of Bangka Belitung with Sumatra Island. During peak periods, high mobility often poses service challenges. Hidayat therefore welcomed the port’s construction and capacity increase so that the public can enjoy smoother, safer, and more comfortable services. “We hope this project proceeds without obstacles and becomes a driver of economic growth and regional development, particularly in Mentok and West Bangka,” he said.

The development project includes the construction of Dock II, designed to serve vessels with a maximum capacity of 1,000 GT, with dimensions of 58 metres in length and 13 metres in width. Additionally, the capacity of Dock I is being enhanced to accommodate vessels up to 2,000 GT, with dimensions of 70 metres in length and 15 metres in width. The development is expected to increase vessel operational flexibility while optimising ferry service capacity.

General Manager of ASDP Bangka Branch, Agustinus Cahyo, explained that Tanjung Kalian Port plays a vital role as a connectivity gateway for the public via the Tanjung Kalian–Tanjung Api-Api route, served by KMP Madani, KMP Mutis, and KMP Belanak. From January to May 2026, this route served 76,875 passengers and 58,952 vehicles. “This high level of ferry activity is an important indicator for us to continue strengthening infrastructure and increasing service capacity,” he said.
