ASDP begins construction of new pier at Tanjungkalian Port, Mentok
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is constructing a new pier at Tanjungkalian Port, Mentok, in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, as part of an effort to improve ferry services and smooth the flow of maritime transport connecting Bangka and Sumatra islands.
“The construction of Pier II will serve as a solution to address vehicle congestion during long holidays, religious holidays, and other peak crossing periods,” said Agustinus Cahyo, General Manager of ASDP Bangka, in Mentok on Thursday. He noted that the construction of Pier II has long been part of the company’s planning and is now being realised, with an estimated construction period of approximately eight months.
The development of the new pier is part of an effort to enhance port management to improve services for ferry users and support the local economy. Work commenced in April 2026 and is targeted for completion in November 2026; the company aims to finish on schedule so that it can support port operations by early 2027.
To ensure the smooth progress of the construction, the technical team has conducted socialisations regarding the construction stages and has received various suggestions and input from stakeholders to ensure the process meets its targets. The project is being undertaken by PT Nindya Karya, and several testing stages will be conducted during the construction process to ensure quality meets required standards. The total construction budget is approximately Rp60 billion, entirely funded by ASDP.
The Chairman of the West Bangka Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Badri Syamsu, expressed support for the construction by PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, noting it will provide a solution for improving maritime transport services and addressing recurring vehicle congestion during holiday seasons. According to Badri, the presence of Pier II will increase the speed, ease, and smoothness of services for passengers boarding and disembarking ferries at Tanjungkalian Port. Furthermore, the new pier will reduce long queues for motorcycles, cars, and passengers that frequently occur during national long holidays and religious festivals. “The leadership of the DPRD, together with the Regent, has coordinated directly with ASDP Headquarters to ensure this construction is realised as quickly as possible to improve the quality of ferry services and support community economic growth,” he added.
