ASDP assures Sunda Strait crossings normal despite increased Anak Krakatau activity

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has assured that ferry services on the Merak-Bakauheni route and shipping lanes in the Sunda Strait are operating normally amid increased activity from Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK).

General Manager of PT ASDP Bakauheni Branch, Partogi Tamba, stated in South Lampung on Monday that safety remains the primary consideration in every operational decision. “To date, the Bakauheni-Merak crossing service is still running normally. Nevertheless, vigilance continues to be heightened. Every development in volcanic activity, weather conditions, and shipping safety information is monitored intensively in coordination with the relevant authorities,” he said.

Tamba stressed that safety will always be the main factor in every operational decision, with ASDP committed to maintaining safe and reliable ferry services through close coordination with all stakeholders. The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Centre (PVMBG) recorded 19 eruptions from Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, during the period of June to July 2026, with volcanic activity remaining at Level III (Alert).
