PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) and the Aceh Provincial Government are strengthening western Indonesia’s logistics routes through the operation of the Jakarta-Malahayati ferry route to enhance connectivity, distribution efficiency, and regional economic growth.

“ASDP continues to strengthen its role as the backbone of national inter-island connectivity,” said ASDP Deputy Director General Yossianis Marciano in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

This commitment was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Aceh Government regarding the operation of the Jakarta-Malahayati ferry route as a new strategic corridor in western Indonesia.

The agreement was signed by Aceh’s Provincial Secretary Muhammad Nasir and ASDP Deputy Director General Yossianis Marciano at ASDP’s headquarters in Jakarta on Saturday, May 23.

Yossianis emphasised that the Jakarta-Malahayati route development is not merely about launching a new service but part of ASDP’s transformation to create a more efficient, modern, and integrated long-distance ferry (LDF) ecosystem.

“This route is expected to act as a catalyst for strengthening national logistics distribution while opening up opportunities for trade, tourism, and economic growth in Aceh and western Indonesia more broadly,” Yossianis said.

Through this strategic collaboration, ASDP and the Aceh Government will develop sustainable ferry services, including vessel operations and fleet management.

Additionally, the collaboration will involve regulated fare setting, development of supporting port facilities, service promotion, and improvements to safety and service quality standards for ferry transport.

He added that the LDF service development aligns with ASDP’s business transformation to deliver a more competitive logistics transport system.

The long-distance ferry distribution model is expected to enhance cost efficiency, reduce logistics transit times, and improve overall operational effectiveness.

Yossianis added that this move represents ASDP’s tangible contribution to supporting President RI’s directive to reduce national logistics costs to 8% through more efficient and competitive distribution systems.

Currently, ASDP maintains Aceh’s connectivity through three main ferry routes: Ulee Lheue–Balohan, Ulee Lheue–Lamteung, and Ulee Lheue–Serapung, served by vessels KMP Aceh Hebat 2, KMP BRR, and KMP Papuyu.

From January to April 2026, ASDP’s Banda Aceh branch handled 128,034 passengers and 63,428 vehicles across the three routes.

He stressed that these figures demonstrate the strategic role of ferry transport in supporting public mobility and logistics flow in Aceh.

“Moving forward, ASDP is committed to further strengthening national connectivity through modern, integrated ferry services focused on public service and sustainable economic growth,” Yossianis said.

Aceh Provincial Secretary Muhammad Nasir expressed full support for continuing the collaboration to provide affordable maritime transport access through roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) ferry services.

He noted that the synergy between the Aceh Government and ASDP is crucial to ensure regional development agendas align with strengthened national connectivity.

“This collaboration will unlock new development opportunities that can be reviewed and expanded to support more comprehensive regional economic growth in the future,” Nasir said.
