ASDP Ambon implements 24-hour ferry services every weekend
PT Angkutan Sungai, Danau, dan Penyeberangan (ASDP) Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Ambon Branch, Maluku, has implemented 24-hour ferry crossing services every weekend to facilitate the mobility of passengers and vehicles.
“The service is available every weekend, from Friday to Sunday, with an operational pattern using a single vessel on a rotational basis,” said Syamsuddin Tanassy, General Manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry Ambon Branch, in Ambon on Friday.
He noted that the 24-hour service does not involve the entire fleet simultaneously; instead, one ship operates rotationally to handle crossings from late night to early morning. The vessel assigned to the 24-hour service operates from 11:30 PM to 4:00 AM WIT, after which regular ferry services resume loading at 5:00 AM WIT.
“It is only for the period between 11:30 PM and 4:00 AM, because by 5:00 AM, the regular ships are ready for loading,” he explained.
The policy also aims to ease the mobility of residents from Seram Island who wish to conduct activities in Ambon City without being constrained by crossing schedules. In addition to supporting passenger movement, the 24-hour service is expected to smooth the distribution of logistics, particularly essential commodities such as basic foodstuffs and vegetables from Seram Island to Ambon.
“Why implement 24-hour service? So that people from Seram can come to Ambon City during the weekend and return immediately after finishing their business, ensuring logistics transport remains smooth and making it easier for those travelling on weekends,” he added.
ASDP Ambon aims to implement this 24-hour service routinely during the first, second, and third weeks of every month, specifically on the Hunimua–Waipirit route. The implementation is expected to provide convenience for weekend travellers while supporting the smooth distribution of goods and services between the regions served by ASDP Ambon. Beyond increasing maritime transport and logistics accessibility, the policy is part of ASDP’s efforts to optimise services for ferry users, particularly during periods of high public mobility.
