Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Bakauheni is targeting expanded learning access for more than 700 pupils at six schools, from primary to senior secondary level, through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme.

“Quality education grows from learning opportunities that broaden horizons, develop potential and encourage young people to dare to pursue their aspirations,” ASDP President Director Heru Widodo said in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

The programme officially began in Bakauheni, Lampung, on Wednesday (14 October), with its first session attended by 288 primary school pupils.

He said education was an important investment in preparing young people for the future. The company’s contribution, he added, was expressed not only through ferry services connecting communities across regions, but also through efforts to open access to knowledge and opportunities for development.

“For ASDP, building connectivity also means helping to pave the way for young people to achieve a better future. Through ASDP Bakauheni Mengajar, we want to share knowledge, foster enthusiasm for learning, and encourage children to dream boldly and develop their potential. We believe consistent collaboration between businesses, schools and communities can deliver tangible benefits for education,” Heru said.

The programme involves employees serving as volunteers, known as Kawan Jangkar, who share their experiences and knowledge directly with pupils. Lessons use “learning by doing” and “fun learning” approaches, combining practical activities, educational games, discussions and interactions tailored to the students’ age groups.

ASDP Bakauheni Branch General Manager Partogi Tamba said the material covers character development, introduction to the world of work, safety, creativity and motivation. The approach encourages pupils to ask questions, express their views, work together and build confidence in the learning process.

“The pupils’ enthusiasm during the first session has encouraged us to develop this programme sustainably. We want the teaching activities not only to provide new knowledge, but also to offer a positive experience that motivates pupils to keep learning and recognise their potential,” Partogi said.

ASDP Bakauheni Mengajar also aligns with the company’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education.

“Through this programme, we want to ensure ASDP’s presence delivers added value to communities around our operational areas. Educational facilities assistance is one form of support, while employee participation in teaching creates an opportunity to share knowledge and experience,” Partogi added.

Going forward, ASDP Bakauheni Mengajar will be rolled out in stages at the target schools, with regular evaluations to ensure the activities continue, the material remains appropriate and the programme meets its beneficiary targets.
