ASDP adds four large-capacity ferry ships to the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route
Banyuwangi (ANTARA) - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is preparing or adding four units of roll-on/roll-off ferries with greater carrying capacity as part of efforts to improve ferry transport services on the Ketapang (Banyuwangi)-Gilimanuk (Bali) route.
The addition of large-capacity vessels on the Bali Strait crossing is the result of an evaluation of the Lebaran 2026 homecoming traffic flow at Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana Regency, Bali, which experienced long queues of up to 40 kilometres starting from H-5 of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah or on Monday (16/3/2026).
“ASDP, as the ship operator, will prepare four units of large-sized ferries with a minimum tonnage of 2,000 GT (gross tonnage) in the future or this year—that’s the minimum,” said the Deputy Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Yossianis Marciano, during a press conference at Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, East Java, on Thursday.
He urged other ship operators (private sector) to also replace their fleets with larger vessels than those currently in operation on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk crossing.
“Because population growth continues to be high, and this must be accompanied by providing large-sized ships,” he said.
Regarding port facilities, according to Yossianis, this year ASDP is also striving to improve facilities and infrastructure, including adding piers on the Ketapang Port side as well as Gilimanuk Port.
“We will also reorganise the ports, both in Ketapang and Gilimanuk, so that in the future it will be even smoother,” he stated.
