Banyuwangi — PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Ketapang Branch, Banyuwangi, East Java, reported that 16 large-capacity ferries operating under a turnaround (arrival-discharge-departure, or TBB) schedule have successfully reduced lengthy queues of holiday travellers at Gilimanuk Port, Bali.

“Alhamdulillah, the lengthy queue of holiday travellers at Gilimanuk Port, which reached 35 kilometres yesterday, has already been reduced to 18 kilometres today,” said General Manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry Ketapang Branch, Arief Eko, in Banyuwangi on Monday.

He stated that 35 ferry units have been in operation since Sunday (15 March), when the Eid exodus experienced a significant surge and queues reached 35 kilometres at Gilimanuk Port.

Of the 35-vessel fleet, said Arief, 16 large-capacity ferries were placed under the turnaround (TBB) schedule. This means these 16 ferries load cargo only at Gilimanuk Port and unload cargo at Ketapang Port, without accepting cargo from Ketapang.

“The turnaround discharge (TBB) scheme at Ketapang Port is applied at Docks MB1, MB4, LCM, and Bulusan, allowing arriving ferries to immediately conduct unloading and promptly resume sailing without loading vehicles,” he explained.

Data from ASDP Ketapang’s Eid Transport Command Post recorded that crossings from Bali to Java on H-6 Eid (Sunday, 15 March) experienced a significant increase, with total passengers recorded at 80,416 people or a 33.8% increase compared to the same period last year of 60,099 people.

Two-wheeled vehicles totalled 18,306 units, a 52.7% increase compared to last year’s 11,987 units, whilst four-wheeled vehicles reached 5,044 units or a 9.2% increase from last year’s 4,620 units.

Buses were recorded at 945 units, a 39% increase compared to last year’s 680 units, whilst trucks totalled 1,590 units, a 13.4% decrease compared to the same period last year’s 1,835 units.

Overall, total vehicles crossing from Bali to Java on H-6 Eid reached 25,885 units or a 35.4% increase compared to the same period last year of 19,122 units.
