ASAKI Confident Government Priority Programmes Will Boost Ceramic Industry Performance

The Indonesian Ceramic Industry Association (ASAKI) believes that various government priority programmes, such as the 3 million houses initiative and the construction of ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s Schools), are crucial factors driving the performance of the national ceramic industry.

“We are also supported by government programmes, such as the 3 million houses programme, the school renovation programme, and the construction of Sekolah Rakyat,” stated ASAKI General Chairman Edy Suyanto in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday.

He further explained that the production capacity of the national ceramic industry is set to increase from 538 million square metres per year in 2021 to 650 million square metres per year by 2025, representing a growth of approximately 25 per cent. By 2026, this capacity is projected to rise to 672 million square metres per year and continue increasing until it reaches 728 million square metres per year by 2029.

Meanwhile, during the first semester of 2026, the utilisation rate was recorded at 72.5 per cent. ASAKI remains optimistic that the utilisation rate by the end of this year can surpass previous achievements and reach a target of 75 per cent.

According to Edy, approximately 95 per cent of national ceramic production is absorbed by the domestic market. Consequently, the continuity of various government development programmes serves as the primary pillar for the growth of domestic ceramic demand.

Furthermore, the expansion of the industry has a direct impact on job creation and investment. Edy noted that the additional production capacity from 2020 to 2029 has absorbed investments exceeding Rp25 trillion and created more than 20,000 new jobs. With these developments, the number of workers employed in the national ceramic industry is expected to reach over 175,000 people by 2029.
