As Spectacle Replacement Costs Rise, Insurance Services Begin to Emerge

Cermati Protect, an insurance brokerage firm, has collaborated with optical retail network DR SPECS to introduce Cermati Vision (Optic Insurance), a protection service for spectacle users against various unforeseen risks. VP of Insurance at Cermati Protect, Juanri, stated that spectacle damage is often viewed as a minor issue, yet the replacement cost can impact one’s financial situation, especially if incurred suddenly. ‘Spectacle damage sometimes becomes an unexpected expense that can affect financial plans. Cermati Vision protection seeks to provide an efficient solution for the public to obtain maximum spectacle protection and maintain financial stability from small risks that are often overlooked,’ he said in a written statement on Monday (6/7). DR SPECS is a retail optical network offering Korean-style spectacle collections through more than 70 outlets across Indonesia, from Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, to Bali, as well as through online sales channels. Operational Manager of DR SPECS, Okiy Saputra, said the partnership is part of the company’s commitment to delivering added value for customers. ‘This strategic partnership with Cermati Protect allows us to provide added value in the form of comprehensive protection for spectacles. This is a manifestation of our care so that customers can enjoy DR SPECS products more safely and comfortably,’ Okiy said. Through Cermati Vision, customers receive Total Loss Only protection, which guarantees coverage if spectacles suffer total damage or are lost due to risks covered by the policy. The protection applies to frames and lenses in new and original condition according to factory standards. Covered risks include damage from accidental events, such as spectacles falling, being thrown, or being struck. Protection also covers damage or loss due to fire, lightning strikes, explosions, aircraft impact, and smoke. Additionally, the policy provides protection against damage or loss resulting from riots, strikes, civil commotion, criminal acts, and natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis. For cases of burglary or robbery, protection is provided subject to evidence of damage to the building where the object was located or physical injury to the insured in the case of seizure. Cermati Vision offers flexible protection periods of six or twelve months, with sum insured options starting from Rp100,000 up to Rp20 million. The claims submission process is also designed to be practical through Cermati Protect’s online claims portal, allowing customers to file claims more quickly and easily if they experience a risk covered by the policy.
