As Prabowo Sought a Coffee in the Plenary Session, He Mentioned Es Teler 77-88

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - A unique moment occurred when Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto delivered his speech at the 19th plenary session of the DPR RI on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at the Nusantara Building of MPR/DPR/DPD-RI. The remarks related to the Macro Economic Framework (KEM) and the Core Principles of Fiscal Policy (PPKF) for the 2027 Fiscal Year.

During the remarks, Prabowo emphasised the private sector’s important role in building the nation. He also praised a number of Indonesian companies that are able to compete at the global level.

When he said ‘we must recognise the achievements of Indonesian companies that can compete at the global level’, he named several such as Indofood, whose noodles are claimed in Africa, and Mayora. When naming Mayora, he referred to how one brand, Kopiko, has been able to be marketed in more than 100 countries because ‘it has its own brand ambassador—the President’.

Afterwards, he suddenly stopped speaking. Spontaneously, he appeared to be looking for coffee at the podium from which he was delivering his remarks, drawing laughter from the chamber.

‘The DPR Organising Committee knows… Oh, there is some, may I have a drink, Madam Speaker,’ he said jokingly.

‘Kopiko likes a president who drinks coffee,’ he added, drawing more laughter from members of the House.

Thereafter, he again stressed how all elements must push private enterprises to excel. He also mentioned another brand, Es Teler 77.

‘Es Teler 77, 77 right?’ he asked. ‘If the Gerindra party… creates a rival Es Teler 88,’ he added to loud laughter.

‘Sorry, Madam Speaker, so this assembly does not get sleepy,’ he said afterwards.
