As Holding for State Logistics SOEs, These Are Pos Indonesia's Challenges
The government is encouraging PT Pos Indonesia to reinforce its role as the holding company for the consolidation of national state-owned logistics enterprises. However, this step is accompanied by major challenges, ranging from efficiency to technological adaptation. Transformation is considered key for the company to compete and meet the evolving distribution needs. Dony Oskaria, Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Executive Agency (BP BUMN) and also COO of Danantara, stated that strengthening Pos Indonesia’s role was discussed during a working visit to Bandung. “I want us all to have the same understanding regarding the transformation occurring in state-owned enterprises,” said Dony on Monday (20/4/2026). He stressed that transformation is no longer an option but a necessity for all state-owned enterprises. According to Dony, this change must be understood as an effort to build sustainable companies. “This aligns with the President’s directives, and it’s not just requested but we all must believe that if we want to have a sustainable company that grows and can be passed on to the next generation,” Dony remarked. Dony highlighted the importance of a shared vision in implementing transformation. Without a clear direction, the consolidation of state-owned logistics enterprises risks being ineffective. He assessed that Pos Indonesia has a strategic role as the national logistics hub. However, this role demands fundamental improvements in operational systems and services. According to Dony, the main challenges lie in distribution efficiency and service integration. High logistics costs remain a problem that must be addressed through system transformation. “This effort is expected to enhance inter-regional connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and support the smooth distribution of goods throughout Indonesia,” said Dony. Additionally, the utilisation of digital technology is an urgent need. Without digitalisation, Pos Indonesia is deemed to struggle in competing amid changes in the logistics industry. Dony also emphasised improving service quality as an important factor. The company must be able to provide fast, accurate, and efficient services to the public. BP BUMN, continued Dony, will continue to encourage the strengthening of Pos Indonesia’s capabilities, including in operations and technology. “BP BUMN continues to support Pos Indonesia to transform sustainably, strengthen digital capabilities, and increase competitiveness to support national logistics connectivity and provide real contributions to national economic growth,” said Dony. With its new role as the holding for state-owned logistics enterprises, Pos Indonesia is demanded not only to adapt but also to lead the integration of the national logistics system.
