President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated General Dedi Prasetyo as the Head of the National Agrarian Reform Agency (BRAN). The initial step to be undertaken by Dedi is to finalise the formation of the official structure that will lead BRAN.

“This is a new agency, as per the enactment of the Agrarian Law,” Dedi told reporters at the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Thursday (1/10/2026).

Dedi noted that BRAN cannot begin full operations immediately. Coordination with the Minister of State Secretary and the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform is required to develop the organisational structure.

“I cannot make this agency operational immediately. I must communicate with the State Secretary and the Ministry of PAN-RB to conduct assessments regarding which officials will serve under me to lead this agency,” Dedi said.

Dedi explained that he will be assisted by two deputy heads, one principal secretary, and four deputies. “As the Head of the Agency, I will have two deputies, a principal secretary, and four deputies,” he clarified.

Furthermore, Dedi explained that once the assessment and the filling of these positions are complete, BRAN will begin drafting strategic operational steps in accordance with the central government’s policy direction.

“This is what will be assessed first. Once the assessment is finished, we will organise and plan the activities to be carried out until the end of 2026, as well as prepare our work plan in line with the government’s policy direction for 2027,” Dedi concluded.

Previously, Prabowo officially inaugurated Dedi as the Head of the National Agrarian Reform Agency. Following his new assignment, the position of Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police vacated by Dedi has been filled by Inspector General Wahyu Hadiningrat.

The National Agrarian Reform Agency, or the Agrarian Reform Implementation Agency (LPRA), was established following the passage of the Agrarian Reform Regulation Bill into law.

The agency operates directly under the President of the Republic of Indonesia, with a mandate to plan, implement, supervise, and assist in resolving agrarian disputes nationally, including mediating land conflicts between communities and corporations.

The duties and authority of BRAN will be aligned and distinguished from the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN). This division of tasks will determine the scope of directorates to be merged into the new agency, as not all functions of land conflict mediation will be transferred to BRAN.
