As Environment Minister, Labour Boss Jumhur Hidayat Plans to Make This Impact

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Chairman of the All-Indonesia Labour Confederation (KSPSI), Jumhur Hidayat, has been appointed by President Prabowo Subianto as the Minister of Environment/Head of the Environment Control Agency. Jumhur replaces Hanif Faisol, who now holds the position of Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs.

After being sworn in, Jumhur expressed his gratitude for being trusted by Prabowo to join the Red and White Cabinet. He already has flagship work programmes that he plans to implement soon.

“Alhamdulillah, I have been appointed as the Minister of Environment; there are certainly many things that need to be addressed immediately,” Jumhur stated at the State Palace on Monday (27/4/2026).

Specifically, he mentioned the issue of waste. Future waste management must adhere to international standards.

“For example, waste management will gradually follow global standards from various international agreements that we will work on,” he said.

Unfortunately, Jumhur did not provide more details on the programmes he will undertake.

“And hopefully, with the President’s support and commitment to environmental issues, I am confident that the environmental apparatus can carry them out well. Pray for and help me in campaigning to ensure that environmental awareness becomes a habit in our hearts; if that happens, the impact will be positive for our society moving forward,” he concluded.

As a note, Jumhur previously served as the Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) from 2007 to 2014. Subsequently, on 16 February 2022, Jumhur Hidayat was elected as the KSPSI Chairman at the 10th Congress for the 2022-2027 period.
