As Environment Minister, Jumhur Hidayat Pledges to Resolve Waste Issues
JAKARTA - Jumhur Hidayat, who has just been inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as the Minister of the Environment, stated that he will work to resolve various issues, including waste problems.
“Alhamdulillah, I have been appointed as the Minister of the Environment. There are certainly many things that need to be addressed right in front of us, for example, waste, which will gradually follow global standards in various international agreements that we will work on,” Jumhur said at the Palace in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026).
Jumhur conveyed that, with the support of President Prabowo Subianto, he will be able to carry out his duties as Minister of the Environment effectively.
“Hopefully, with the President’s support and commitment to environmental issues, I am confident that the apparatus in the Environment Ministry can carry out their duties well. Pray for and help me in campaigning to ensure that environmental awareness becomes a habit in our hearts. If that happens, the impact will be positive for our society moving forward,” he added.
Jumhur is known as a social activist who has previously served as a government official.
Jumhur was appointed as Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) in 2007.
He served for seven years until President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) dismissed him via a decree signed on 11 March 2014.
Now, Jumhur serves as the Minister of the Environment, replacing Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, who has become Deputy Minister Coordinator for Food Affairs.
