As AI and Cloud Proliferate, Indonesia's Digital Infrastructure Must Become More Resilient
The increasing adoption of cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital services has made companies’ need for infrastructure that is not only fast but also secure even greater. This condition has prompted PT Synnex Metrodata Indonesia (SMI) to expand its edge cloud solution portfolio through a partnership with Fastly.
The collaboration is aimed at expanding access for companies in Indonesia to technology that can improve the performance of websites and applications while strengthening protection against cyber threats.
This move targets a number of sectors that have a high dependence on digital services, ranging from banking, retail, and telecommunications to digital-native companies.
Indonesia itself is currently experiencing an acceleration in digital transformation. Based on projections from Mordor Intelligence cited in the partnership materials, Indonesia’s digital transformation market is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.11% in the 2026-2031 period.
This growth is accompanied by an increasing number of companies relying on digital applications, APIs, and cloud infrastructure to run their businesses.
The problem is that the increasing dependence on digital infrastructure also increases demands on performance and security. On the other hand, the development of AI and automation has also enabled the emergence of increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
This condition has left companies facing a dual challenge: keeping digital services fast and available, while ensuring that applications and APIs are protected from attacks.
Director of Synnex Metrodata Indonesia Lie Heng said the partnership with Fastly comes at a time when companies in Indonesia are increasing their investment in data and cyber security.
“The partnership between PT Synnex Metrodata Indonesia and Fastly is formed at a crucial time, when organisations in Indonesia are prioritising investment in data and cyber security,” said Lie.
Through this collaboration, SMI will expand access to Fastly’s programmable edge cloud platform while providing support to partners and customers from the pre-sales stage, implementation, to after-sales services.
From a technology perspective, the Fastly platform includes content delivery services, application and API security, edge computing, and observability.
Unlike approaches that focus solely on content delivery, a programmable edge architecture allows content processing, applications, and security decisions to be carried out closer to users.
This approach is intended to reduce latency while improving the reliability of digital services. For companies that rely on applications as a core part of their customer services, this capability becomes increasingly important as the volume of digital transactions and interactions continues to grow.
SMI will also leverage its channel ecosystem and local expertise to help partners and customers implement the technology across various sectors.
Meanwhile, Area Vice President, Asia at Fastly Rachel Ler believes Indonesia is entering a phase of increasingly strong digital growth, with companies accelerating the adoption of digitalisation, AI, and cloud.

The partnership with SMI, according to her, is part of Fastly’s commitment to expanding the use of its edge cloud platform in Indonesia by combining Fastly’s global technology and SMI’s channel network in the local market.

As companies become more dependent on digital services, performance, security, resilience, and the ability of developers to innovate quickly are becoming interconnected elements.
