Arya Setyaki wins Indonesia Kart Race
JAKARTA (JP): Jakartan Arya Setyaki won the overall Indonesia Kart Race 1997 title at the Sentul circuit, near Bogor, Sunday.
Setyaki, 19, a student at Trisakti University won with a total of 106 points from the seven legs of the race.
Michael Ali of the Tanada Karting team came second with 97 points and Dimas Danindro third with 60 points.
In Sunday's race Michael and Dimas initially pressed Setyaki very hard. But the student managed to keep the lead and had opened up a large lead by the end of the 25-lap race. Michael had to be satisfied with second place.
"Of course I am happy to win the title. Today's was my best performance this year," Setyaki said. He is a member of the Viradi Karting team.
Referring to his future plans, Setyaki said he intends to switch to Formula class racing. "I want to follow in the footsteps of Ananda Nikola who is currently competing in Formula Three."
In the Intercontinental C event, Eris Mahpud of the Primajasa Maxxis team won the overall title with 122 points.
Pramono Hadi of the Askar Kartin team came second with 78 points and Freddy Rostiawan of the Polo Racing team third with 68 points.
The sixth leg of the Mesrania 2T Enviro Kart Race was also staged. Setyaki won again, Michael came second and John Agus Brata of the Djakarta Theater team was third.
The final and seventh leg of the Mesrania 2T Enviro is in Bandung on Nov. 30. This race will be preceded by the final sprint rally from Nov. 28 to Nov. 30. (lnt)
