Artists want 'Surabaya Post' to reappear
SURABAYA: Members of Surabaya Arts Council (DKS) will stage a
prayer session to show their concern over the closure of the
Surabaya Post evening daily in the hope that publication of the
newspaper will be resumed.
"The plan will be realized to correspond with the fortieth day
after the Surabaya Post's 'death'. We will invite all artists in
Surabaya to pray for the reappearance of the newspaper," DKS
theater committee head Farid Syamlan said on Thursday.
The paper officially ceased publication on Tuesday due to
financial problems blamed on the company's mismanagement.
The closure sparked protests by hundreds of its employees, who
demanded the company's president director, Indra Jaya Aziz, pay
serious attention to their fate.
Farid said other people, especially readers, could also join
the prayer gathering, which will also feature a poetry reading
and public discussion. --Antara
