MANILA (DPA): Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Wednesday visited the United States Embassy to personally express her sympathy to the thousands of victims in last week's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.
Arroyo met with U.S. Embassy Charge d'Affaires Michael Malinowski and signed the book of condolences.
"Our prayers go not only for the American victims but especially also for the Filipino victims," she said in a statement. "We are united in grief and condemnation with the United States, Japan and other mourning nations."
Two Filipinos were confirmed to have died in the attack on the World Trade Center in New York, while at least 19 others were still missing.
On Tuesday, the National Security Council, the Philippines' highest security body, backed Arroyo's "all-out support" for the U.S.-led global coalition against terrorism in response to the devastating attacks.
