Arroyo slams plots, says govt in control
MANILA (Reuters): Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
vowed on Thursday to quell any plots against her and said the
government was in control.
Arroyo, faced with a 26-day hostage crisis in the south of the
country and an upsurge of kidnappings in the capital, told the
nation that government agencies were investigating those involved
in efforts to undermine her presidency.
Arroyo said on Tuesday the recent kidnappings in Manila could
be part of a "sinister plot" to destabilize her government as the
kidnappers apparently were not just after ransom.
Arroyo denied media reports suggesting that she was pointing
to the opposition as being behind the alleged destabilization
campaign.
