Arroyo orders weekly burning of drugs

PHILIPPINES: President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ordered on
Saturday the weekly public burning of substances seized in a
crackdown on illegal drugs, to prevent corrupt law enforcers from
reselling the narcotics.

She also ordered the pictures of suspected drug traffickers,
along with details like their names, addresses and passport
numbers for foreigners, splashed across newspapers and TV so the
public could get involved.

"Let us put a face and identity to these people," Arroyo told
about 300 students, government officials and anti-narcotics
agents who attended an anti-drug rally at the presidential
palace.

"Let us get the Filipino people, the public involved in
hunting them down," she said. -- AP
