Arriving in Cebu, Prabowo Welcomed by Maung 'Indonesia 1' Vehicle
President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Cebu, Philippines, on Thursday, 7 May 2026, for the 48th ASEAN Summit. The conference of Southeast Asian nations is taking place from 7 to 8 May 2026.
According to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo landed at The Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority or MCIAA General Aviation (Gen-AV) Terminal at 13:45 local time (LT).
Upon arrival in Cebu, a Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine vehicle was waiting for Prabowo at the airstrip. The white vehicle with the ‘Indonesia 1’ plate is the one normally used by the Head of State during his time in Indonesia.
Upon landing in Cebu, President Prabowo was welcomed by Eduardo Oban, the National Security Adviser of the Republic of the Philippines. Prabowo was seen wearing a cream safari shirt, a black peci cap, and black sunglasses. At the foot of the aircraft stairs, Prabowo received an honour guard welcome with an honour guard formation and a performance of traditional Filipino dances. In addition, the Gerindra Party General Chairman also received a bouquet of flowers from the host.
Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya claimed that for the first time, the Head of State was picked up using the Maung during an overseas trip. Teddy stated that the Maung vehicle is a light tactical vehicle resulting from the development of Indonesia’s national defence industry.
“While in the Philippines, the President will use this vehicle known as a tough light tactical vehicle,” said Teddy, quoted from a written statement by the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
According to him, the use of the Maung in the President’s international agenda also demonstrates the progress of the domestic defence industry. Teddy explained that the Maung vehicle produced by PT Pindad has been developed since Prabowo served as Minister of Defence during President Joko Widodo’s era. Moreover, Prabowo has been using the Maung since being inaugurated as President on 20 October 2024.
“Currently, its production at Pindad has reached 3,200 units and has been used in various domestic operations and needs,” he said.
Teddy stated that the use of the Maung at the 48th ASEAN Summit agenda is not merely as a mode of transportation, but also as a symbol of national independence, national confidence, and the advancement of Indonesia’s industrial technology.
This ASEAN Summit carries the theme “Navigating Our Future Together” and serves as a forum for ASEAN leaders to discuss the region’s direction amid global pressures.
The meeting of ASEAN regional leaders is also expected to strengthen regional solidarity in maintaining stability, economic growth, and strategic cooperation in various sectors.
Before the summit at the head of state level, ASEAN is reported to hold several ministerial-level meetings on Thursday, 7 May 2026. The agenda includes the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN Political-Security Community Council Meeting, ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting, and ASEAN Joint Foreign and Economic Ministers’ Meeting.
