Arrested Ombudsman Chairman Holds Assets Worth Rp4 Billion
Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman RI, Hery Susanto, arrested by the Attorney General’s Office over an alleged corruption case involving nickel mining business governance in North Sulawesi, possesses assets worth Rp4 billion. He reported these assets to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on 17 March 2026 while serving as Deputy Head of the Ombudsman. Hery owns land and buildings valued at Rp2.35 billion, consisting of 150 m²/70 m² in East Jakarta, acquired through his own efforts, worth Rp1.8 billion, and 106 m²/121 m² in Cirebon worth Rp550 million. The man born in Cirebon on 9 April 1975 also declared vehicle assets totalling Rp595 million, including a Vespa LX IGET 125 motorcycle from 2022, acquired through his own efforts, worth Rp50 million, and a Chery Micro/Minibus from 2025, also self-acquired, worth Rp545 million. With extensive experience in public policy and advocacy, Hery also listed other movable assets worth Rp685.9 million and cash equivalents of Rp539.688 million. “Total assets worth Rp4.170.588.649,” as reported from the KPK’s e-LHKPN website on Thursday (16/4). There was a reduction in his assets by Rp101.546.531 over the past year. In his report dated 18 February 2025, Hery’s assets were valued at Rp4.272.135.000. Hery previously served as an Expert Staff to a Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission IX for the 2014-2019 period. He then held the position of Executive Director of Komunal for two terms from 2004-2009 and 2009-2014. Additionally, Hery was Chairman of the National Coordinator of the BPJS Care Community from 2016-2021. Hery had just taken his oath of office as Ombudsman Chairman for the 2026-2031 period before President Prabowo Subianto on Friday, 10 April 2026. The appointment of these nine Ombudsman RI members is based on Presidential Decree Number 20/P of 2026 regarding the Dismissal and Appointment of Ombudsman RI Membership.
